You may have read my earlier post, expressing my love for my Tangle, my disappointment that it had ‘mobility issues’, and my joy that the lovely people at Tangle Creations had agreed to send me a new one.
Well… it’s arrived! 😀
[Cue lots of ecstatic flapping and squeeing…]
It’s just like my other one, except it doesn’t come apart when I use it, and it doesn’t squeak. PLUS they also sent me a friend for it, all the way from the USA! The friend is cute, it’s black, white, yellow and clear, and even has little smiley faces on it – handy given how much I use them! Here is a picture of them ‘tangled’ together:
As an aside, I notice that despite my automatic tendency to assign genders to objects to inanimate objects, this doesn’t happen to the Tangles – they remain gender neutral, perhaps because they are so cute and little! *SQUEE*

Tangles are AWESOME! I’m glad you have some new goodies! 🙂
Lori
They are brilliant aren’t they! What colour/sort are yours?
Nubbly clear rubber over turquoise, green and lilac links. A skinny purple/green/blue and one sweet metallic one that hubby ran off with! 🙂
Oh they sound lovely! Did you buy them online or do you have a local shop that sells them?
Local shop. I think amazon.com has them too. 🙂
I got mine online, but I would love to be able to see them in real life before choosing one! 🙂
I hear you. Here’s my favorite: http://www.specialneedstoys.com/usa/tactile/580-therapy-tangle.html
It pops apart, which I like since I can assemble and re-assemble it. I love the gooey rubber texture overlay.
Hand tools are awesome. I enjoy buying a pack of lovely staples and systematically bending them into bits! 🙂
I’ve not seen one like that before, but I’m tempted to get one now! 🙂 Does it help you concentrate on other things to use hand tools?
It helps me to concentrate when I am doing a boring task. I use hand tools to moderate anxiety. I tend to rock, pick, and make odd finger moments without them. Hand tool are a must for sandal season. I’d reduce my toenails to pink pulp without them! 🙂
He he! I find them helpful in social situations 🙂
Heh, OK I see you asked someone else about what types of Tangles they have, so I’m going to take this as permission to tell you about mine (sorry!) 😉
I have:
A plastic silver metallic jr (rather than a chrome metal one), this is my favourite because it’s so fluid and can be spun around my fingers while I wiggle them. I also find I can make my head go funny by making what looks like a flat loop from it, then staring at the distorted textures while moving my head or hands from side to side.
A colourful fuzzy Tangle Jr, I thought I’d like this because I like tactile sensation but it makes me feel like I have chalk dust behind my fingers or I’m getting lots of little pin pricks – other people like it and think it feels soft and fuzzy, so this helped me realise that I have some extreme sensory reactions. I’ve actually been using it to help to desensitise myself to the sensation.
A green, yellow, black and transparent Tangle Jr texture (actually just different moulded bumps and ridges). This was surprisingly rigid compared to the metallic, but then it snapped after less than a week. I wrote to the company I got it from and they sent me a yellow, pink, blue and transparent replacement for free that hasn’t had any problems while the original has snapped again twice since and is now only 12 sections long.
A squishy big (wide sections) Therapy tangle like A Quiet Week has – I like this but wish it didn’t have solid ridges at the joints so I could squeeze it more comfortably. I also had to remove two sections because 20 links was wrong, it needs to be 18 or fewer or it moves uncomfortably.
A koosh ball style rubbery Tangle Hairy in yellow, blue, red and brown that smells and feels amazing and is like illicit catnip for me! I meant this to be for squeezing to stop me stressing the joins in my rigid Tangles, but it mostly ends up getting absentmindedly rubbed all over my face 🙂
And finally a black Tangle Flatz which is quite rigid with straight edges, I tend to use this as my ‘travel Tangle’ because it looks the most like it could have a useful function. People tend to think this one is a puzzle and want to flatten it into different shapes.
On my wishlist are the thinner squishy Relax Therapy, the tie dye style Tangle Aloha and the Tangle Spiked – I want this last one so badly because it fits my tactile sensory seeking so well, but it’s been discontinued. I even tried to have it imported from Canada but their ‘In Stock’ wasn’t true 😦
I tend to use different types of Tangles for different things; the fluid or squishy ones help me relax but tend to make me also completely stim out and stare at things while I use them, the more rigid ones are good for helping me to focus and tend to get used absentmindedly while I’m going other things like talking in a work conference call or reading a paper. The different effects of different types of Tangle does not help me from persuading myself not to buy more!
Oh and I always carry at least one with me and pride myself on being able to spot fidgety people who’d enjoy playing with one, so they’re great for breaking the ice in social situations 🙂
…and now I’ve talked in far too much detail to be socially acceptable, hope you don’t mind! 🙂
I don’t mind at all! I’m so jealous of your Tangle collection, it makes mine seem woeful! I think I will have to add a few to my xmas wish list… 🙂
I have a Relax DNA Therapy too now – it’s a roughly Jr size and diameter version of the Therapy that moves as freely and smoothly as a Texture but feels squeezy (with a bumpy surface) and makes almost no sound when you’re Tangling – it’s like a Texture Jr but on mute! It’s got slightly shorter segments but runs to 20 segments total rather than 18. It oddly smells strongly of a bar of soap.
I’ve also ordered the darker rainbow coloured Tangle Aloha but that hasn’t arrived yet 🙂
…as you can tell, I’m not very good at waiting until birthdays and xmas! 😉
Amazing puzzle piece ….
BTW: Is there a way to make it flat ?
They’ll go flat but they won’t go straight 🙂
